Nav cross-checks and emergency drills

On cross-country hops I have students run a 60-to-1 drift check every 10 minutes and verify nearest/ETA on the GTN 650 before we brief lost comms (squawk 7600, light gun, last assigned) at the hold short. I’m after a clean kneeboard card that pairs this with an inadvertent IMC escape — time/turn to the heading bug, torque set, 500 fpm to MSA using ForeFlight or the GTN — happy to trade templates if you’ve got a solid one.

I use the GTN 650’s repeat timer set to ping every 10 minutes for the drift check/nearest/ETA, then a tiny kneeboard line that says “bug–torque–500” for the IIMC escape. If the box is busy, a $10 kitchen timer is the most reliable copilot I’ve found, and the HFH’s IIMC flow backs it up: https://www.faa.gov/sites/faa.gov/files/2021-09/Helicopter_Flying_Handbook.pdf.
